If you could bilocate and be in two places at once, you might see me in my studio striking tuning forks beside two tiny microphones, hovering over a table arranged with twelve activated crystals. Somewhere else, perhaps hundreds of miles away, my client lies comfortably with headphones on, receiving a remote BioField tuning session.

How BioField Tuning & Energy Healing Works Over Distance

In a session like this, together, we’re attuning, and tuning in

Though we may not be in the same room, the energy between us is very much alive. Using sound, vibration, and intention, I work with what’s known as the biofield – the subtle electromagnetic field that surrounds and informs the body. With the right tools and presence, we can connect beyond physical boundaries and enter the realm of energetics.

While, during in-person sessions, much of the work happens in silence, when we’re working remotely, I guide the client more vocally, sharing which tuning fork I’m using and where on the crystalline body map I’m focusing my attention.

Before me is a table with twelve crystals, each representing an energetic point on the body, including the chakras, knees, and feet, arranged in the shape of an upside-down Y.

During remote sessions, I use tech to ensure that my clients can hear the tuning forks as though they’re right there in the room. The resonance is so beautifully meditative and surfaces in subtle responses.

I begin each session by sounding 528 or 417 Hz, frequencies known for clearing and harmonizing, to open the space and create energetic coherence. This also serves as a quick sound check so the client can adjust the volume before settling in.

From there, I work my way from the feet to the crown using weighted tuning forks, often inaudible even to me, but deeply felt. I describe each step, inviting the client into the process. If you’ve ever been guided to relax your shoulders or soften your jaw in meditation or yoga, you’ve already experienced how awareness and suggestion can shift energy.

Is Distance Healing as Effective as In-Person Energy Healing?

I began my journey with distance energy healing years ago, when I became a Reiki practitioner. In this Japanese energy modality, symbols are used to enhance the healing power, including one specifically for working across time and space. It’s said to connect us to pure consciousness, where time doesn’t exist as we know it.

While Reiki draws from ancient traditions of subtle-energy work, it was formalized in the early 20th  century, offering a bridge between old wisdom and modern healing.

Today, many traditions and modalities are converging with scientific insight. Modern research is beginning to echo what earlier healers intuited. Our knowing of energy, vibration, consciousness is now coming into new forms of clarity.

Take quantum entanglement, what Einstein famously called “spooky action at a distance.” It’s the concept that two particles, once connected, can influence each other instantly, no matter how far apart they are. Many energy healers work with this understanding, even if we use different language.

Or consider morphic resonance, a theory proposed by biologist Rupert Sheldrake, who studied the invisible bonds between animals and their humans. His research suggested that dogs, for example, often sense the exact moment their owner begins the journey home, regardless of time or distance.

Another emerging concept worth noting is that much of our universe exists not as solid matter, but as plasma — ionized, highly responsive energy that makes up over 99% of the visible cosmos. Free-flowing electrons and ions form a kind of cosmic connective tissue, linking stars, solar winds, and the space between. Even within and around us, traces of this living plasma field are continually forming and dissolving.

Plasma arises through the polarization of negative and positive charges, spinning itself into being from the underlying aether, the subtle substratum from which all matter emerges. Depending on environmental conditions, that same energy can then condense into gas, liquid, or solid form. When we consider that we, too, are electrical and fluid beings, continually exchanging charge and light, the parallels become striking. (For more information on plasma aether, and the human biofield I invite you to read ‘Electric Body, Electric Health by Eileen Day McKusick)

These ideas, along with the growing body of research around intention and consciousness, suggest we are only beginning to understand the possibilities of non-local healing aka distance energy healing.

Sound as a Portal: Why Frequency Matters

Of all the tools used in remote healing, sound is perhaps the most tangible. It can be heard, felt, and even measured. “There is a Vedic saying, NadaBrahma, which translates into ‘all is sound’ or ‘sound is God,’ which means that all is brought into being by frequency, by sound,” says Eileen McKusick, founder of Biofield Tuning.

Different frequencies carry different effects. I often use 174 Hz to connect with grounding energy and 528 Hz, sometimes called the “love frequency,” for its harmonizing and heart-opening qualities. These sounds act as gentle catalysts, helping to clear stuck energy and bring the body into coherence.

For most of a remote session, tuning forks act like antennae, picking up information from the client’s biofield, offering feedback through resistance or flow, and then gently reorganizing the energy. The body responds. Sometimes subtly, sometimes profoundly.

Each session is entirely unique. One client came in feeling quite stressed, and when I played a fork that usually produces an uplifting effect, she winced. That same person responded beautifully to 54.81 and 62.64 Hz, grounding frequencies that helped her settle. It’s a reminder that our energetic needs are personal and ever-shifting. As a practitioner, I adapt my approach to each specific person.

Sound doesn’t just affect our ears; it shapes our bodies, our cells, and water itself. The emerging field of cymatics — the study of visible sound and vibration — shows how frequency organizes matter, such as water and sand, into beautiful, intricate patterns. Researchers like Masaru Emoto explored how intention and words can influence the crystalline structure of water. And more recently, Veda Austin has brought forward groundbreaking work showing water’s apparent capacity for memory, responsiveness, and even communication.

Considering that the human body is over 60-80% water, it’s no stretch to imagine how tuning fork frequencies might ripple through us in powerful ways.

Final Reflection: The Field Is Always Listening

“Like fish in water, we are swimming at all times in an ocean of energy,” says Eileen McKusick in Electric Body, Electric Health. “Everything is energy, frequency, and vibration.”

You don’t need to fully understand the science to feel the effects of sound and energy work. (I’m certainly still trying to grok how it all works!) Often, all that’s required is openness and a willingness to listen inward and notice what shifts.

Whether we’re sitting together across a table or connecting across time zones, healing in the field of energetics is not only possible, it can be truly life-changing.
