Building a business can sometimes feel like you need to be good at everything.
You need a great offer. A website. A brand that actually feels like you. Good photos. People need to find you. You need to get the word out. You need to understand SEO, content, social media and email marketing. And somewhere in there, you’re supposed to actually do the work you love, too!
Over the years, I’ve learned that simplicity is the key – No, you don’t need to do all of the things, all by yourself. You just need to know which pieces matter, when you need them, and who can help you put them in place. I get asked these questions a lot, so put together the following article to share a few of the resources I’ve used, and recommend, with options for every budget.
First, your foundation needs to be solid
What exactly are you offering? Who is it for? What makes it valuable? Does your branding reflect the work you’re doing? Can someone understand what you do when they land on your website or Instagram?
The Mission Vision Values process should be part of every business inception (and regularly re-visitied. And to then grow your business, you first must put in place a solid foundation. This requires answering all of the above questions, and building a solid framework for growth. My good friend Meghan Lee is excellent at guiding this process, and has helped me throughout my expansion of Head + Heart. She offers a business accelerator called Body of Work Foundations designed to help you get clear and established on all the key elements- from your offers and branding to your messaging and overall direction, all while remaining embodied (aligned) in your truth. This live accelerator that runs twice yearly- the next one starts August, 2026.

Getting a professional website without spending a fortune
Shameless plug: I recently hired my son Noah (who’s in high school) to build my new breathwork website, and he did a great job! I’ve already received quite a few great client inquiries through the site.
Noah’s sites start at $500, which makes this a really accessible option for someone who needs a professional online home without spending thousands. He uses AI for the design, but can move the site into WordPress if you prefer (that’s what I opted for). He’s only 17 but was easier and more enthusiastic to work with than many others I’ve hired in the past.
I provided three inspo sites, a site map (list of pages needed), images, and most of the copy (though he can also creates copy if needed), and he built my new site for me in a week, with some back and forth. He’s also been available to do any updates I’ve needed and tech support. I know a lot of people use Kajabi, but it’s pricey, and I’d rather build my own branding into my own URL than rent another platform. With how fast and easy AI makes web design now, I personally think it makes more sense to build your own landing/sales pages and funnels that drive traffic to the site you actually own – as doing so also supports long term SEO/AIO.
Making sure your site is properly optimized to be discovered through organic search & AI
SEO & AIO can feel like mysterious things you’re supposed to understand but don’t fully grasp. I’ve been working on SEO much more intentionally as I’ve expanded Head + Heart this year, and I’ve been lucky to have two people in my corner who have been incredibly supportive in helping me develop a strategy.
Suzanne Rushton helped me think more strategically about SEO and content, and I’ve really appreciated her thoughtful approach.
For deep technical, design and development support, I’ve been working with Sourav at Weblystics. Sourav has been great with tech fixes, strategic implementation and strategy. His team also specializes in online ads, which is a nice bonus.
In the wellness space, I’ve noticed that many practitioners don’t grasp the significance of SEO for their business. If there’s one thing to know it’s this: When done right, SEO can bring you business more effortlessly (your clients will be reaching out to you, vs. you trying to find them!). And if you’re not sure how your business is doing, there are tools like Semrush, Screaming Frog, Google Page Speed, Google Search Console, and Wizer AI that all scan your website and tell you how to optimize it so that your business appears in top search results.
Online credibility & PR
Getting found online isn’t just about SEO, it’s also about trust.
Before someone books a session or buys from you, they’re looking for signals that say, this person is credible. That might be a media feature, a recommendation, a trusted directory, or a place where someone else is effectively vouching for your work. And increasingly, AI-powered search is rewarding those same trust signals by giving more visibility to businesses that are cited and featured across reputable websites.
That’s part of the reason I designed the Head + Heart Directory Membership the way I did.
It’s more than a directory listing. It’s a curated space where wellness practitioners can share their offers, upcoming events and expertise while being part of a trusted editorial platform that already reaches an audience actively seeking wellness experiences. From both an SEO and AI search perspective, being part of a credible ecosystem can strengthen your online presence – and from a human perspective, having someone else champion your work can make all the difference.

Great content (showing up online)
You know you need to tell your story. You know you should be showing up on Instagram. You know you need good photos and video.
But then you realize you have approximately three decent photos of yourself.
YVR Creatives solves this problem as they offer Content Creation Days, basically a day dedicated to building a library of photos and videos that you can use for the coming weeks and months. And their amazing founder Christine Coughlin helps you get comfortable being on camera, so that it all feels as genuine as possible.
Finding your people
And finally, we all need our safe spaces in business, the people who can help us go farther. The places where we’re able to show up in a room with other people who are building businesses, asking similar questions and trying to create success on their own terms, while navigating the daily struggles.
We recently shared these recommended mastermind communities for conscious entrepreneurs to help you find your people.
All of the masterminds featured offer some coaching. However, if you’re really seeking the 1:1 guidance of a coach, I’d recommend Lisa van Reeuwyk, who’s an incredible business coach for growing, scaling, expanding, as well as Ana Lila, who specializes in helping high achieving women who are navigating threshold moments of growth.
_ _ _
There’s no one right way to build a business, and none of us has to have it all figured out. The above are some of the people and resources I’ve found most helpful this past year, and I hope they offer you support, inspiration or momentum for wherever you’re at. Send me a note if you have any questions.
